That is the life! That could have been here 20 years ago, but not now.
More than likely they quit cutting.What happened? Back in the mid 70s in Avery County, just about every time I walked down to the Linville River from the cabin to fish I`d flush at least one grouse. They were plentiful all around that area.

This. The grouse habitat goes away and so do the grouse. Back then around 10 to 15% of national forest land was the prime age for grouse habitat. Now it less than 1.5%. You can still find grouse where the habitat is right. There’s just not much of it that is.More than likely they quit cutting.
