Monthly 3-D Shoot
Saturday, July 1, 2023

The North Georgia Traditional Archery Club takes place on Saturday July 1, 2023, at 2295 Lee Land Road in Gainesville, GA. We will begin shooting at 9:00 a.m. and will pull targets at 3:00 p.m. In addition to our regular activities, we will conduct our annual business meeting at the main assembly area beginning at 1:00 p.m. We only have two shoots remaining on our schedule, so time’s running out if you haven’t been to shoot with us yet this season. Make your plans now to be with us for our final two events of the 2023 3-D season.

We will set 20 targets in the woods at varying distances from a single stake. Shoot from the stake or from any point you desire between the stake and the target, depending on your level of confidence in your shooting ability. The course will be adequately marked so it will be easy to find your way around. Better yet, shoot with someone who is familiar with our layouts and make a new friend. Shoot the course as many times as you’d like for one low price.

Shoot fees – Unchanged since who knows when?
Members
$5.00 per shooter
Family of three or more - $15.00
Non-members
$10 per shooter
Family of three or more - $25.00
Kids under 12 years of age shoot free.
First time shooters at our club shoot free.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and we ask for a $5 per person donation to cover the cost of the food and supplies.

New Information - To help us to prepare appropriately, beginning this year, we will institute a 10:00 a.m. cut off time for lunch sign up.

NOTE: All shooters and spectators must register at the registration tent upon arrival.

At the North Georgia Traditional Archery Club, we define traditional archery equipment to include longbows, recurve bows, and primitive bows.

Please, no compound bows, crossbows, or any equipment that does not fit our definition of traditional bows. Loaner bows and arrows are available for anyone who doesn’t have their own equipment. Let us know at the registration tent if you need to borrow any equipment.

I have been shooting trad for about six weeks, geez it is addictive.

What are the distances, I saw where you could shoot from anywhere you feel comfortable.

May can get to the last one of the year...

You can shoot from a comfortable spot in front of the stake, or behind it. We do ask that all shots be taken from the imaginary line from stake to target.

Distances vary. Some we might set at five yards. Some we set at 35+ yards. Average is more like 10-20 yards.

I just visited Big Jim's Bow Shop in in Albany, picked up a new forty five lb recurve now that I have been shooting the 35 lb one daily for about seven weeks. Two observations - Much harder to draw and hold steady than I thought it would be, but it comes off finger tab much cleaner and crisper, an oh it is spitting them. Of course today is just first day shooting it. I will say this, Big JIm not only builds some beautfiul bows but he and a guy there spent quite a bit time with me talking me through key tips around both shooting and equipment. I will be putting a deposit down in a few weeks for a customer takedown - this new phase of bowhunting is going to be terribly adictive!
