Sheepshead

I've caught sheepshead around pylons every winter but was wondering if they're always around pylons? I've heard during the summer they move out to deeper water? I'm asking because i want to take a friend soon.

Has any one had luck catching Sheepshead using soft plastic crabs?

A friend of my granddad had a trick for sheepshead. He always kept a flat hoe scraper in the boat and would slide up to a few pilings and scrape barnacles off to chum the water then back off to cast small shrimp into the chummed areas.

Thats what we do now. But we open some of the barnacles and fish with them. Always works out great

Barnacles are a great bait and so are oysters. Fiddlers are the main stay, but back when I fished the east coast it was gloves, scrapers and nut crackers for the shells. Agree with raking the pilings, great way to start a chum slick. We caught them all summer long.

scraping pilings works magic. Convict fish are fun to catch, usually easy to catch and delicious....hard combination to beat....
