I've caught sheepshead around pylons every winter but was wondering if they're always around pylons? I've heard during the summer they move out to deeper water? I'm asking because i want to take a friend soon.
A friend of my granddad had a trick for sheepshead. He always kept a flat hoe scraper in the boat and would slide up to a few pilings and scrape barnacles off to chum the water then back off to cast small shrimp into the chummed areas.
Barnacles are a great bait and so are oysters. Fiddlers are the main stay, but back when I fished the east coast it was gloves, scrapers and nut crackers for the shells. Agree with raking the pilings, great way to start a chum slick. We caught them all summer long.
