Stain over stain??

Time to restrain the handrails on the porch but o can’t find the can we thought we out in the barn with the color.

Finding something similar, though. Anyone ever stained over stain from one shade to another? What was the outcome?

I’ve done it a couple times. Just get a couple sample cans and do a test site and find what turns out good. It’d be good if you could figure out if the original was water or oil based. It’ll probably be fine either way if the original is old and aged.

Depends on what kind of stain is on the wood now. If it was a hard finish like a polyurethane stain it will have to be sanded off first. You can stain over an oil or water based stain
