The future of gun values

I have a small collection of some nice guns. I don’t hunt much anymore but I do enjoy shooting. I hate selling any gun and hold onto them for sentimental reasons and I hope they will retain their value, but the democrats would like nothing better than to make all guns illegal, 2A not withstanding. At the very least, they can tax ammo until we can’t afford it, making guns obsolete unless the owner has stockpiled ammo, as most of us have. I don’t have a son to leave them to so they would go to my estate at some point, which would result in a nice chunk of change unless guns have become worthless or illegal. Should I continue to hold onto them or sell with the possibility that guns could become illegal or obsolete in our lifetime?

It is a very personal decision.

Based on the information given, I say sell some.

But I think 70 is when I will begin depleting my accumulation.

Don't worry too much about the big G.

Depending on what guns you have, they could either go up in value because of desirability or demand, or theoretically decrease in value because they aren't in demand anymore ? I don't believe the younger crowd, by which I mean 45 and under, value the classic wood stocked guns the way most of us do . There will always be collectors I suppose, but trends in the last 20yrs have gone in different directions than previously with firearms,

Since you don't have anyone to leave them to, I'd say keep what you enjoy shooting still, and sell the others and use the money for something you'll be able to enjoy

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm fixing to sell a few soon. Don't have any kids but do have 2 Nephews.

I'm planning on leaving them a few but I know they wouldn't appreciate the quantity and quality of my collection. I'm not leaving them enough to have an irresponsible "fire sale".

When I decide to sell, it wil be on my terms barring a weird circumstance.

Unless you have something uncommon, rare, or because of political actions or changing times, has recently become desirable, index funds have always beaten guns in attaining greater value.

I wish I could tell you which ones will appreciate faster and higher but if I could do that…….

If you don’t use them or at least enjoy looking at them, they are an idle asset financially and should be converted into an asset or something else that works better for you.

Do you have friends you used to hunt with or who own guns? Why not leave them to your friends. They’d be enjoyed for a long time to come. I have some of my guns willed specifically to some friends upon my death. The state can’t touch em.

Bequeath them to someone that is close to you. My uncle had daughters who had no interest and left part of his collection to me. They’re some of my most prized processions. Even if it’s a friend, it’s a very personal choice.

If I had no one to pass them down to I’d sell them and use the money in a way I could enjoy now. I’m a few years ahead of you.

Personally…I think they are better investments than money in the bank.! Look at gun + Ammo prices in the last 10 years….

If guns become illegal they will not become cheaper. Just sayin.
But we’ll all be criminals if we own or sell them. You can bet the soft on crime left would throw the book at gun owners.

If the democrats are successful in "banning" guns it will be the fuse that lights off a powder keg they will not survive. I do not expect it to happen, but if it does some folks you know will need those guns. So count the risk of a ban as reason to hold on, not sell.

On the other hand, if you are not enjoying your collection, don't sit on it. Give a few special items to family members who will appreciate them. Pick out a few to keep and care for and sell the rest! No sense in holding, cleaning, storing, and fussing with, firearms you are not ever going to enjoy!

Every kid should have a .22.

If you have daughters they might have kids one day.

Nephews or nieces might appreciate one or two.

A friend’s child might as well

I used to never think they’d really outlaw the whole firearms and associated industries because of their part in the economy. But today’s politicians don’t seem to care about saving the economy, much less the firearms part of it. They’ll be worth big bucks on the underground market for about a generation or until there’s no source of ammo.
