i saw where former 5* recruit, bj scott, is now transferring. was this a case of him being buried on the depth chart, or was this a call from saban to let him go? i saw an interesting comment on another board that said, at bama, when a 5* doesn't pan out, he is cut, but at our school, we blame it on the coaches. now i'm not saying that he was cut by saban, but often times, we as fans would rather place the blame on the coaching staff, instead of realizing that the kid wasn't a good fit at our school, or even the d-1 level. i think it said he was the #1 athlete in the country and #19 overall (per espn), when he signed with bama. he is headed to south alabama.

Not exactly sure where the big disappointment part of it comes in. Simple math dictates that this equation doesn't add up. The boy is ranked that high in his skills and abilities among all other potential recruits, yet he chooses University of South Alabama?????

Perhaps he was short on his ability to keep up with academics? Perhaps he was wayyyy over rated??? Whatever the reason, if he was all that and 100% eligible he wouldn't have landed at South Alabama.

Just saying.

That's fine, but the fact still remains, if he was "all that" as the rankings imply South Alabama???? Out of all of the schools in the SEC, or country for that matter, that he coudl have gone to??

maybe other schools were concerned with his durability and didn't want to take a chance on a guy who would have to sit out a year and then only play for a year or so.

also, some of these kids understand that you can go to a lower tiered school and still make it to the nfl. uab has produced a few nfl standouts.

let me spell it out for you..."big disappointment" that this kid did not live up to his billing at BAMA, regardless of the reasons, lots of folks thought this kid would be special.

p.s. South Alabama is his home...

The guy has been hampered by injuries, he is just coming off of surgery on an ankle or foot. Came in as a 5* trying to make a transition to defense and it did not work out for him. Saw play on special teams and mop up duty. Saban said last year that he thought they threw too much at the kid trying to make the transition and he just was not making the necessary progression. He was to be a starter this past year but was beat out by Dequan Menzie. I think BJ saw the writing on the wall and asked for the transfer. Why South Alabama? Does not have to sit a year, will be back home with his family and will probably be a starter on Defense next year. USA has been playing football, weak schedule, for 2 years now and have not lost a game. They have a player this year playing in the Senior Bowl. Scott is not the first Bama player to transfer there. Higenbothem transferred there last year. Very good coaching there under Joey Jones.

So that's "The Process". They let the kids know ahead of time they can go to another school with no penalty if it doesn't work out (Jasksonville St., South Alabama.......)

As long as they know ahead of time I guess it's OK until the right person complains. I guess if your not going to school to get an education it shouldn't matter.

It seems that some are unaware of the football program at the University of South Alabama, which is understandable, as the 2010 season was just our second season of football. We approved football in early 2008, with our first season in 2009. We played 2009 and 2010 as an unclassified NCAA program (technically non-varsity), going 17-0 against FCS (1-AA), D-II, D-III, NAIA, JUCO, and Prep School competition. In 2011, we'll be a provisional FCS member, and we'll begin our transition to FBS in 2012. In 2013, we'll be a full-fledged member of the Football Bowl Subdivision's Sun Belt Conference. Our future schedules consist of games against Mississippi State, NC State, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Navy, etc.

We've had transfers from Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Troy, UAB, Western Michigan, FAU, WKU, and many other schools. South Alabama is a great place for transfers, because they don't have to sit and they'll still be playing at the FBS level in 2 years. Starting in 2012, FBS transfers will no longer be eligible to play immediately.
