When do you cut back gardenias?

I know they grow year round, and I have some monster bushes that need a drastic pruning.
When can I cut them way back without killing them?

You can prune them almost any time, but the best time to prune gardenias is when the blooms start to turn brown. If you do at any other time you'll cut off the new bud sets. Never prune them when freezing weather is still a possibility.

Theyre tough. 25% isn't too much to cut off
