What kid of oak?

Was doing some scouting on a new club and came across the oaks, they appear to be young, 12-20 feet tall. They are loaded with acorns and I did not immediately recognize.

Thanks for your time!

Vernon Holt

Gone But Not Forgotten
I would say that you have yourself a genuine Turkey Oak. This also means that you have yourself some deep, sandy, excessively drained soil.

Vernon, you're probably right, there is several of them right in one spot and it is really sandy right there.....

Thanks.

Turkey Oak for sure, living in the deep sand I got a plenty of them. The bark is not exactly normal but i've seen quite a few of them like that.

Deer will eat the turkey oak acorns but I have found that they relish post oak acorns more readily. Usually, the post oaks can be around around sand hills along with the turkey oak and blackjack oak.
