I have hunted every where for a made to fit recoil pad for my 870, to save my shoulder, with no success. How hard is it to grind one down? Seems there are a mutitude of sizes on the 870 wooden stock. Also how expencive is it to have a gunsmith do it.

Sims makes the prefit Limbsaver for the 870.

I prefer the HiViz X Coil, but the Limbsaver is good.

My Gunsmith will mount and grind to fit a recoil pad for $40.00.

This one

charges about $50 plus the pad....:biggrin2:

Generally labor is $35 to $75 dollars if that helps.

If you don't have any luck look on ebay. You can just about buy a entire stock set with a r3 recoil pad for what it will cost you to have another installed on yours.
Just an idea.
I have a R3 on my 870 and it's great. Makes those 31/2's feel like a 20 guage.

the R3 will only fit synthetic stocks I do believe...or at least the one I just gave away was that way:D

It's pretty easy to grind one down to fit. Put a piece of electrical tape on the stock and grind down to the tape. or just mark it the grind it down.
