It is there to vent for two reasons. lp burn off, but more so to let the heat created by the cooling unit to vent off and help the unit cool better.

Yep that vent is a safety issue and is very important to have..if yours is leaking or in need of repair Then do so by all means..Gas buildup is heavy in campers
