has anyone on here been to la. in jan hunting woodcock? am thinking of making the trip, am lost on where to go.. any and all suggestions welcome . would consider public land and a guide also.

The Atchafalaya River basin is home to the largest concentration of wintering woodcock in North America. Over 800,000 acres. I would start an online search for info on the above. Gil

It has been a while since I have hunted there but years ago I would always stop in a day or two when I was driving back from Texas. My buddy went last year and it rained most of the week but they still had awesome hunting.Thry had 30-40 points a day and easily shot their limit over quality points. I stopped in a rest area years ago to let my dogs stretch their legs and they pointed woodcock in the woods behind the rest area. It is the best woodcock hunting anywhere. Make sure it is cold when you go. Everything moves in those swamps. The Atchafalaya basin is full of WC. Call DNR they will point you in the right direction. It would be a great hunt.
