Looked at a few prices on different shells, would I benefit from reloading? And what’s a good reloaded for 28gauge?

MEC is a good brand for shot shell reloading equipment.

IF you find powder right now, it will be at a premium price.

How many rounds of 28 ammo will you shoot per year?

$250 for press
$150 for 8 pound jug powder.
$15 for wads
$50 for bag of 25 lbs of shot
$35 for 1000 primers

Adds up to around $500, plus you need empties to reload. Buy a couple cases of AA ammo and pick up your empties.

Powder is sold in 1, 4 and 8 pound jugs. 7000 grains in a pound. 12 grains of Green Dot powder per round, ~580 rounds of ammo from a pound of powder.
You can buy primers 100 at a time.
You may find smaller bags of shot.

The smaller quantity you buy, the higher price per unit.

Do you have a bench on which to mount the press?

You also have to dedicate time to reloading.

Reloading is fun and rewarding, but it just has to be a part of the hobby to be truly "worth it".

Buy all the Winchester AA loaded you can and start saving the hulls. Unless you find a good deal on hulls from BPS, the cost of buying new hulls makes it cheaper to buy the first 20 boxes.
I've also had good results with Fiocchi 12 ga hulls since I started with a box of 2000 8 years ago. They've lasted thru 5+ reloadings.
I've got a Steelmaster, which is a Sizemaster shipped with steel bushings.

If you find primed hulls, they don't require a hazmat fee.

a bag of shot will load 400 1 oz loads, 25# * 16 oz = 400

Recobs has 25# for $38 plus $16 for shipping 2 bags

Claybuster wads are about 2c each:

Usually Id agree with what's implied above; for 12 and 20 you gotta shoot a lot to amortize the cost of the loader, but 28 being so expensive to buy, it makes more sense.

Of the hard cast variety
Find a MEC at a yardsale or a site like LetGo. I've found them for $25 to $40.
Buy the 28ga conversation kit.
It will save you $100+ right off the bat.

if you really shoot alot i would go with a dillon press. we have one for 12ga. with auto hull feeder and if my brother and i get together we can do about 800rds a hr. him loading and me keeping primers, powder and shot filled and boxing. but you have to shoot a lot to make it worth while. i used to shoot 7-8 rds of skeet and trap 3 to 4 times a week....
