Allis Chalmers 185 tractor problem

Well I finally started on my rebuild project after this tractor went down about a year ago. Figured I would ask here about the issue at hand since some tractor pros cruise this area.
About a year ago during pull the tractor started slipping and couldn't pull load anymore. Sounded like something in the gears. Almost like something was rattling with this consistent whine growl as it moved. It will move but slips and growls somewhere in the gears. So I have disassembled the entire back end all the way up to the point of getting ready to pull the transfer housing off and tranny. I was told by someone that it could be bearing related. Everything so far has looked great. All the gears seem to be in good shape from the pto all the way to what I can see at the transmission gears under the gear shift linkage. Any ideas what I should be looking for?

If it's slipping under load it's the clutch.

clutch is the first thing to look at, not gears and such.

split that baby in half.
