If you know a science teacher, or are a science teacher, here is a practical gift of how ionic changes affect everyday life. With “hard” water, the heat causes decomposition and redistribution of minerals. Such is the case of the water heater element that was just changed at my home. One of the elements was completely covered in limescale, while the other had characteristic “bridging“ between the legs of the element. Result, in real life, a cold shower. (See pics.)
In my case, my elements should probably be changed every 2-3 years. The savings in electricity bills alone would probably save the price of $13.48 for each element.
