Have to agree with Nic, old CVA kit pistol. Had a lot of them come my way back when I was making powder guns. Always needed hammer alignment and sear tuning (if they were put together half right). Many were so badly misaligned that they wouldn't bust a cap with out fragments flying. Some even showed up without a decent "cup" in the cast hammer face.
If you are not real familiar with BP weapons have a knowledgeable individual check it out before trying to load or fire. Always assume they are loaded until you verify otherwise.
Can be fun to shoot if set up right.
Yep, it is a "modern" kit gun. Make sure it isn't loaded. I would suggest that you spray the metal with WD40 and use a toothbrush to gently remove surface rust. You can also use the ramrod and patches to get dust and grime out of the barrel.
If you aren't familiar with black powder percussion weapons, I am sure someone here would be happy to meet up and go over it with you. Certainly it is worth preserving, it might even be safely functional.
