Best gar flies

I'm new to the forum. Saw a post from back in August about gar flies and it got me interested. I looked some up on the internet and saw them made like a popper with one hook, with a treble hook trailing, and without hooks. Which work best?

Have made some real simple ones by cutting a length of nylon rope and whip finishing a leader to the front and then fraying the rest. This gets tangled in the teeth and you can land them without a hook. Hardest part of it for me was about the first 10 times gar took it I would "set the hook" and pull it out of the mouth before it got tangled in the teeth, but had good luck once I let them chew on it a while after the take.
