Browntop Dove Field

Got permission from the landowner at the last second to plant a dove field (7/2/22) and spread 150 lbs of millet on 4 acres the next day. Dragged it over and sprayed the whole thing. The field was crimson clover, young rag weed, blackberries, and other weeds. Have had good rain and have probably 75 percent coverage. Based on when it seeds out we are only looking at bush hogging it prior to trying to shoot. Curious as to the results other have had with a last second cut as low as the hog will go.

That’s all I’ve really done in the past with my little field. It’s worked well for me. This year I plan to disk strips in the field and then use my zero turn to shoot the seed heads onto the bare ground. Hopefully it works out!

It’ll shoot the seeds a lot better if you can run over the bag ?

You can see the millet on the left that's all browned up. I helped it along with some glysphosphate last week. Ill keep mowing it with my zeroturn to do exactly what you say, and throw seed into the previous clear and ever enlarging strip of dirt. Has worked great in years past. I cut on high setting then come back over it set as low as I can get it.

I've got an itch to burn it but not sure I'm brave enough.

Mowed some of it yesterday. Seed is still green but hopefully they will eat it. Hoping for a shoot next weekend and another later in the year. Pretty good stand for not working the dirt at all.
