Can anyone identify what this is? A child's toy or an actual alien space helmet?

Found this today while duck hunting. Anybody know what it is?

How heavy was it and what did it appear to be made of?

It's thin aluminum... weighs almost nothing. On the inside, it has places where a headband would snap in. I'm thinking it's a toy helmet from the 50's or early 60's, but I'm hoping someone can identify it. Then again... look at those "battle dents". Whoever or whatever landed here must have gotten into a heck of fight to explain that damage -- not to mention a concussion.
