My eldest son, who is a very good cook, uses this baste on chicken and perhaps other things. He whisks in the lemon juice and vinegar before applying. Not sure where he got it, but it didn't originate with him.
CHICKEN BASTE
1 ½ cups olive oil
1 ½ sticks butter
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons garlic
2 tablespoons onion
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons coarse ground black pepper
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
optional
¼ cup white wine vinegar
Squeezed lemon juice
