You can easily fire and hunt with a BLR as a single shot. I've owned several BLRs, recommend this type of single loading procedure; open the action while the rifle is relatively level and facing in a safe direction. Single feed a round into the chamber point the rifle downward in safe direction. Close the action (lever) and slowly ease the hammer down to half cock. Ready to go.
BTW, those magazines are VERY expensive nowadays. You may want to spend some time looking before jumping on the first one you find. Places like GunsAmerica, GunsInternational, Ebay and similar would be where I'd search first.
