Just wondering what everyone will be having for their supper to celebrate the new year.
We will be sticking with a pork butt on the smoker along with kickin collards, cornbread and black-eyed peas.
Gonna put the but on the Green egg to s l o w smoke all night long at 225°
Rubbed this 9 #er out a little while ago with the "Meat Church " Holy Gospel seasoning and let it sit until tonight and then introduce it to pecan and red oak smoke!20231231_073055.jpg20231231_072500.jpg

We`ll be having mustard and collards out of the garden, dried blackeyes, all cooked with smoked hog jowl, home made pepper sauce and chow chow, cracklin` cornbread, spiral sliced ham, baked sweet potatoes, and banana split pie for dessert.

Kind of a charcuterie thing this afternoon/evening. I got a little carried away with the contents so we may have to start eating in the afternoon to put a dent in it. Tomorrow it will be hoppin' John and collards with a smoked turkey leg in 'em for seasoning and probably some cornbread. New Years is one of my favorite meal of the year!

I go with the hog jowls, love 'em, but I don't do the collards and blackeyed peas. Me nor my wife neither one likes them. I guess that's why I've never been prosperous. :) I'm doing the cornbread tonight with some deer backstrap. We'll have hog jowls for breakfast, and burgers tomorrow night. Can't beat starting the new year off with a burger. :)

When I told the family that I was once again cook'n the traditional New Years pork.. peas.. and greens I was questioned "Why, it never helped us before?" To which I replied "Just imagine how bad of shape we'd be in if we hadn't been eat'n it all these years."

It's started, halusky, cheese sticks, jalapeños bites and deviled eggs...

Great start.

Broiled lobster tail, charred garlicky broccolini, and taters adante style.

Had a few leftover Lima beans from a few nights ago in the frig. Made some Lima bean hummus with those, basically the beans, lemon juice, garlic, cumin and olive oil.
