Oaky Woods quota hunt

Got drawn for the first week quota hunt at Oaky Woods in Houston county for the first time in 3 years. First 2 days of the week spent over 8 hours in the woods without the first sign of a gobbler. No gobbles off the roost and not the first response to an owl hooter nor calling. Monday rolls around and i finally hear my first gobble of the week, Go time. Get set up and give him about 5 minutes then answer back to him, only to be greeted with silence. Two and a half hours pass with no sign that he is even still in the area. Then it happened, He pops out the bottom 10 yards behind the decoy in dead silence. His last fatal mistake. First Tom i’ve harvested and i couldn’t ask for a better first bird.

Public land birds are pressured hard. Patience will kill lots of Turkey. Most hunters give up way too quickly. Congratulations on your first bird!
