I have a book about paleo artifacts with pictures of all kinds of paleo era points and various stone tools.I recognize Clovis, Dalton and some of of the other paleo point types but in the back sections the author shows all kinds of stone items that he calls paleo. I must have a bucket full of similar pieces. My question is, How does he know these pieces of broken rock are from the paleo era?

Some of them were distinctive and only made and used in that period. Others would have to be found in situ with other paleo artifacts to say for sure.
I have that same book, btw, it’s interesting.
