Find a tree in an area where you see squirrel sign which will be acorn or hickory nut cuttings (look on top of stumps or along the trunks of downed trees). Squirrel beds (nests), and holes in hollow trees that show wear from squirrels going in and out are signs that there are squirrels around. Find a tree that is close to the sign and rake the leaves away from the base of the tree where you'll sit with your foot. No leaves allows you to move quietly. Sit with your back to the tree and be still. Look around without a lot of movement. If you take another person you can get on opposite sides of the tree that has a squirrel in it which keeps the squirrel from moving around to keep the tree between you and him. After you shoot you may see other squirrels if you sit down and be quiet to allow time for things to settle down. TAKE A KID WITH YOU. Squirrel hunting is a great way to introduce a kid to hunting.
