Very Few Pics...

Just wondering...

We checked our camera yesterday..it has been in the same spot since about the end of June. Every time we have between 300 and 500 pictures in a week. This week we only had 75 pictures.:mad::(

It was the hottest week of the year and our thought is that not many deer were moving because of the heat. They may have been staying low and closer to the lake that is only a few hundred yards away. Only 3 different deer showed up this week. Did anyone else have a big drop in photos this week?

the heat seems to play heck on the sensors. I have noticed that unless the camera is in a very shady, cool spot, it has a hard time with the sensors in the extreme heat

It doesnt matter how hot it gets the days are getting shorter, these deer are still in batchlor groups and are in areas that are open. The hay field next door to us had 65 deer in it friday night. Bucks ranged from spikes to three very large maybe 4 or 5 yr olds. The next weeks are set aside for the fall socilizing, bucks size the competition, also they are about a few days from rubbing off velvet. all that corn doesnt mean squat now the testesterone is taking over and the bucks that you could time to the hour may never show up again! sorry welcome to deer hunting!

I never thought about that..the camera is in thinned pines, but gets a lot of sun mid-day. That could be an issue. We had a lot of corn eaten, and the amount of pictures that were taken don't match to all that corn being gone.

That's a good point! It's getting close to time where they are going to start changing their patterns a bit. This could be another reason we weren't seeing all those bucks this week. Thanks for the tip!

Apparently the sensors do not work well in hot weather. It seems when the air temp gets into the 90s the sensor cannot or does not detect the difference between the air temp and animal body heat and does not trigger the camera.

If possible, change the sensitivity setting to high, move camera closer to target area, make sure batteries are fresh, face the camera away from the sun, etc. Also, check the times on the pictures and see if they are all in same general time frame such as late night/early morn. Good luck.
