What is this critter?

Found him in the flower bed. I've seen pictures of them before just can't remember. The body is about two inches long.

They're impressive critters. I've got a dried one on my bookshelf above my desk here at work, sitting on a shed deer antler.

Had one blacken my eye one night running the lake during a bass tourney. Thought he'd busted my eye until I realized I could roll it around a bit. Two trips to the eye doctor to get all the little leg parts removed and stayed black for nearly a month. That was the night I decided I really didn't want to be a pirate - hate eye patches. Did learn a very valuable lesson about wearing safety glasses when running the water. (we still placed 3rd, by the way)
