You can if you want to add pepper but it tends to fall back on the birds health and cycles. Hens only have so many eggs to lay in a lifetime. Modifying by artificial means to increase the amount of eggs laid by a hen shortens that lifetime.

That’s not so bad. You get the eggs sooner and you don’t have to feed her all them extra years. ?

This right here,,,,right after the molt,,,,adding pepper to the feed won't help to warm up their bellies,my neighbor recommended this,,,,

Throw em some cracked corn hr before dark. Supposedly they will grind it all night in the gizzard and supposed to keep the warm. I axed mine but they didn’t say anything.

Light as said. Use a LED and you'll never notice the cost.
I don't know about pepper and all the other. But lights will do it.
