Camping at Dicks Creek in Dahlonega

I’ve been living close to Dicks creek WMA a couple of years now, and go there frequently during the week, all the way across the creek and up. Campsites are still there, no noticeable trash, but LOTS of signs of bear in the area. You can see large clumps of earth pulled up from the digging for grubs. They still stock, and I’ve enjoyed hours catching and eating rainbows and browns from there. It does get quite crowded during the weekends, but all the folks I’ve met have been very pleasant and well mannered. Don’t recall seeing any “no camping” signs posted anywhere. Just MY experience.

Dork's Creek WMA parking lot by the hippo pool is full of trash.
Can't believe you didn't see it.
Late last summer summer some group either left or picked up and left 3 overflowing large garbage bags full of trash from there. And then left it in the parking lot to get scattered again.
You can make one pass through the camping areas on the main road and always find at least one person or couple living life large out of a '88 Escort and moving his campsite every two weeks has required.
Too many idiots who don't know what a WMA or a trout stream is for have ruined the place.
And no, you can't dump your RV gray water on the ground in a WMA.
THX.

Took a drive up there Saturday. Every campsite was jammed full. Although it was Memorial day weekend. Looked the same last fall during the bear hunt also. Not hunters though. Large groups of Asians, Indians, townies, weekend warriors, yuppies, and the like. I did pass a Lumpkin Co Sherrif SUV way back that had 2 officers. Not sure what they were doing. The bears are there because of all the trash. Its disgusting.

It would be nice if it could be moved 100 miles father away from Atlanta.

I live, practically, next to it.

Metro Atlanta has gotten MUCH too close.
