I planted a few collard plants the heading kind a few days ago they are doing well despite the hot weather. Now I am preparing the soil for a turnip bed I plant the purple tops with some mustard seed mixed in. Anyone here planted any collards or turnips yet? I will plant mine probably around the middle of this month.

I remember one time that I planted my greens the last of August, they made some fine ones. Hope I can get a repeat.

I've gotten cabbage, collards, and brussels sprouts in the ground over the last two weeks. A bed of turnip greens will be going in sometime in the next week.

Turnips went in on Saturday, just in time for some rain! Beds were tilled and fertilized a few weeks ago. Hoping they do well in first time plots for this lease.

I put in some collards last week, they’re already sprouting up. We do something a bit different with our collards. We like to remove the central stem of the leaf, roll a few leaves tight (like a cigar) then slice it thinly, creating thin strips. Then cook for about 10 minutes in olive oil and a bit of seasoning—basically a stir-fry. they are good just like that as a vegetable, but we like to put them on scrambled eggs topped with a bit of feta cheese.

Not sure if I'm in your neighborhood or not. Up in northeast ga. I've been planting kale the last few yrs up here in early Sept. It's very small now, so i won't get any until spring. It will survive the winter, and when spring roles around it will start growing like crazy. I boil it with hog's behind, just like i would with mustard, turnip greens, or collards. Good stuff.
