Companies have lost touch

What they got against the horse?
I don't know. It doesn't really make sense. Maybe we need to put that colorful old saying out to pasture (no pun intended). Now that you mention it, there are some salty sayings involving animals. For example the "goat rope" describing a chaotic, unorganized situation. And the classic for when you are unwittingly part of a "goat rope" but not the cause of it per se

Yes, there’s foxes in hen houses, dog and pony shows, ‘bout the only ones I can think of suitable for a family oriented forum. Many others come to mind but can’t post them here.

What he said. ^ The best thing about being self unemployed (if you don't work you don't make any money) other than being able to pick the days you won't make any money is not having to put up with any corporate crap and if your customers/clients get too uppity you can fire them.
I am self employed too, pay monthly to work there, don't really buy in to much they peddle, delete most woke emails I get from them. Do like my Broker but he's a just a paid mouth piece for the mother ship outta NJ.
If it get u bearable I will just move my license somewhere un woke..

You could always go get your broker license. ;)

I am the company founder/CEO. I haven't lost touch so much as I have adapted to the realities of a mostly Gen Z workforce. I could take a stand and fight generational differences but in doing so I'll run off some great, productive employees. Its a two year investment to bring someone up to speed. Its more expedient to lead, counsel, and coach than to replace.

Do they still require "self appraisals"? Mine always made me sound like I was a lock for employee of the year.

What a waste of time.
I've worked at three "fortune 100" companies and they all do that stupid appraisal. And every time you show your manager your "excelling/exceeds expectations" score, they make a point to tell you the score really isn't possible anyway and knock you down to your "average" 3-4% raise.

That’s smart of you. I adapted to the standard gay folks and they performed very well. I am now at a point where I can’t adapt beyond having a few gays, dealing with vegans and hearing about the environment.

I am too close to deal with this gender mess. I wouldn’t be able to adapt to a dude in the ladies restroom.
The day I have to do that is the day I walk out the door.

We had a trans at one of our branches out west. Nope

Exactly right! I have pushed up some high scores for an employee I wanted to make sure I kept.

I got back a detailed letter explaining that 5’s shouldn’t be used unless you’re saying they are ready to move up.

We own 4 kayaks, yet we rented a tour from these folks on Tybee. They did a great job, price was right, the hosts, professional, laid-back, and knowledgeable. Not a pronoun in sight, although they did take time to show turtle nests and stuff. Perfect job for you, and then wrangle bikes in the off season!

Na, I just shake my head. Last month was diversity and inclusion. That was a pronoun extravaganza. facepalm:
Yes, when did employers start thinking it was their job or responsibility to tell you what to think or believe on personal or social matters.

It all started back in 1987 for me. I was in no position to contribute to my 401k. They called me in the office to twist my arm because my future depended on it.
Sure it’s a good idea to get in the 401k as a young man and I did the next year, but that was the first time a company went personal.

The dumb trainings on how to deal with pronoun freaks spills over into suggestions for all times. I should be able to say I swerve at those freaks on the way home without consequences.

Now that I think of it. It was actually 1985 a company meddled in my business. I worked at Kroger in high school and they decided I needed to pay some union dues. No sez I. I went ninjy on them the next day.

My wife works for a big bank we’ve all heard of. They are always having the “woke “ agenda poured on them. The big boss is a little light in the loafers, so it’s par for the course. They contribute to all the gender, racial, and other pity party organizations. BUT!, they didn’t have money for raises last year.

Dog & pony is my favorite. It was probably my most used saying, considering I was in the military where they loooooooove them a good dog & pony show. :(

Raises? With all that "woke" agenda training they should have encouraged you to "self-identify" as a happy employee making more money!

I didn't know that self-appraisals (or supervisor appraisals) had anything to do with raises. In the section where I worked, all of us were "maxed out" as Electronic Tech III and couldn't be paid over & above what the labor board allows. I guess high appraisals might help me fight it if they were trying to fire me.

The last leadership class I went to promoted helping your subordinates deal with their feelings about how you ordered them to do anything. It’s ok little feller, if you don’t like the way I told you to do something, here’s my shoulder, there there. Made me nauseous. We’re here to fight fires and hopefully save a life or two, check your feelings at the door.
I checked out of the department because of this very reason I was trained old school and was to hard on the new recruits they were coming in with a fire science degree and never been in a house fire let alone a victim recovery. I called it 20/20 —20 years old and 20 years of experience

In the major companies I've worked at, your year-end appraisal/performance-review determines your raise. The process is basically your opportunity to prove your worth. To your point, if you are already maxed out, then you are simply fighting for maximum allowable raise. That's basically where I'm at. I'm capped and should only expect 3-5% raises, and my bonus, if I've earned them. If my appraisal was more mid, like average instead of above-average, then I am fighting for a 1-2% raise vs 3-5% at the higher rating.
