Deer are Picky

Vernon Holt

Gone But Not Forgotten
I have a fall plot with a good stand of Cowpeas and Sunflowers. As one would expect, there is a light mix of weeds.

There are deer tracks all over the plot. Close observation has revealed that the deer have sought out and browsed heavily on Pigweed while barely touching the peas and sunflowers.

There are two varieties of Pigweed. One is heavily armed with stickers, and the other has smooth stems with no stickers. Deer are feeding on the weed without the stickers.

Anyone know where I can find a few pounds of Pigwood seeds??

This is very encouraging considering I've just spent a small fortune putting in new plots. When you find the pigweed seeds, let me know. It will save me money on all that "designer" stuff I was getting ready to buy!
