I was fascinated with it when I was a senior in college. America3 won it in '92 and Bill Koch was all over the local papers. The yacht ended up in Wichita eventually which is kind of cool. He used to say winning it was 60% technology and 40% people. Not sure if that's right, but it looks like a grueling, punishing and at the same time exhilarating race experience.I guess i was just bein cute about the time off sailing for a bit part. Wasnt in for long but it was good for me. I was a bit of a know it all at the time and getting knocked down a peg or two did me right. The America's cup was something else. Just man against nature but also against man. Having the money later kinda broke me of my need to compete. Most places i went i knew i was the richest feller in the room so nothing to do but be the man i guess. Nowadays i just enjoy simple things. When you've had it all you know it just aint worth the chase. To me anyway. Some just enjoy the game and keep on.
