Partridge pea patch

Beautiful day to do some tractor work, just need soil test and I’ll be ready to plant. The area doesn’t get much sun, I hope it’ll be ok. If not, I’m just out the cost of seeds and a little diesel fuel. IMG_1999.jpeg

Partridge pea does good in partial shade
Good to know, the patch is surrounded by mature trees, it’ll get mid day and early afternoon sun at best. I guess a plus will be that the soil shouldn’t dry out so quickly.

Im interested in this idea. Have you ever planted Partridge Peas before? Any tips on a seed source?

I got mine from Hancock Seed company in Florida. Five pounds of seed with inoculant was about $80, free shipping.

I’ve never planted them but a friend who does quail hunts has acres of them. They produce yellow flowers that attract pollinators and seed pods that the birds love. They’re perennial and provide good ground cover.

What kinda seeding rate do yall use?

They are not perennial they are heavy reseeding annual. Disturbance such as dormant season fire or light disking right before spring green up will promote the partridge peas

Running the tractor is therapeutic for me.

Seeds and fertilizer out ahead of the rain, the waiting game begins. Most importantly, the wife’s cutting boards came clean, so no one’s the wiser, except you guys and Bud, and Bud ain’t allowed in the house.

I remembered my wife had bought a small bag of wildflower mix a couple of years ago so I put that out too. Looking forward to the results.
