Property taxes again - Hall county

How? Why?

Just got my assessment in the mail. Last yr my little 1300 sq ft house and 2 acres suddenly went up 25% from the prior yr, after being here for 17 yrs. This time it's up another 15% from last yr. My school tax this yr is more than my entire bill was 3 years ago.

My mother has 9 acres that she inherited 30 yrs ago next to me. She's in her 70s and doesn't live in hall co. Her taxes are going up over 50%. The school tax got her as well.

Ppl are freaking out. I just asked a friend if his went up. He said he didn't think so. He hadn't been to the mailbox yet. Now he's calling for a revolution! Lol! I don't blame him! Me too! We can't afford this garbage!

Yeah, got mine in too. Ridiculous! I never really paid too much attention to this up until last year. My neighbor behind me created a spreadsheet on every property in the neighborhood showing the % increase/decrease in property taxes. He’s calling for a revolution too and is mailing this info to all of the residents!
What I found interesting is until late LY, there hasn’t been any new construction in the neighborhood since the 90’s. Now some small developer purchased at least three lots & has two houses built and another under construction currently. Those three properties taxes actually decreased. There are also two other properties that are owned by a Chinese Corp of some kind apparently based on current records. Those properties taxes also decreased. EVERY other property in the neighborhood has shown anywhere from an ~25% to over 50% increase. Mine personally was in the low 30% range IIRC.
The school tax was also over 50% of the total tax bill for me too!

Haven’t received this years. It’s probably going to be similar. Glad we sold the lake house. I bet Hancock is gone mad since people started selling for Oconee prices to VRBO investors

They don't use chalkboards in schools anymore. Now it's 85 inch touchscreen TV's and a tablet for every student.
Got 2 new elementary schools under construction and several additions and renovations going on in Hall County as well.

Mine went up 25% last year and about 15% this year, Last month I applied for the senior school tax exemption but it doesn’t show on my assessment ,

Everything is outrageous nowadays. I am not sure it will ever end at this point and unfortunately, it will never go down, so we are setting new price points with every good and service for now on. I so hate it for my 20 something year old kids that will have to deal with this crap long after I am gone.

This is not only going on in Georgia, its here in NC as well and other states. Its a never ending thing that we the people can do nothing about except pay the price, or so it seems.

Forsyth county has been stupid the last few years. And they are building like crazy still and cumming is building stuff like crazy. Wouldn’t you think all the new properties should cover the bill? Who’s getting the free ride?

Got mine in Cherokee up 20% this year after 29% last year! County commissioners will drop Millage rate .01 percent and swear they are cutting taxes

I’m in Hall county as well. Haven’t seen mine yet, but sounds like I will be contesting it.

Does Hall county let you opt out of paying the school portion once you hit a certain age? If they do it's not automatic. You have to request it.

Just about the same in Bartow. This county only allows you to opt out a portion of the school tax as you age. I did the paperwork, why am I paying anything for a school system that I have no children in? It’s just theft.

Forsyth county has been stupid the last few years. And they are building like crazy still and cumming is building stuff like crazy. Wouldn’t you think all the new properties should cover the bill? Who’s getting the free ride?

Forsyth County is at 80% school tax.

Have not seen mine for this year yet but it went up 40 percent in one year on last year's assessment I got. I don't know what to expect this year

Appeal....i've appealed twice in fulton and gotten them reduced both times....
