Sandstone rock

I found this rock ( on a coffee can for size ) in a garden plot that has yielded hundreds of artifacts ranging in age from paleo to historic cultural periods. What may it's use have been. I don't think it was formed like it is.

I’m not an artifact guy but have seen sandstones used in my life time to sharpen awls for leather work. That’s what this looks like. The groove is from working an awl to a point.

It`s an abrader. All flintknappers had one in their tool kit. Used to grind the edges of the preform before taking a flake off. Nice artifact.

Thanks for the correct term. Here’s awl abraders from a museum.

I have a couple in my knapping bucket with similar wear patterns.
