Smallmouth!

The kids talked some smallmouth into getting in the boat. Nothing huge but it was a great way to spend Father’s Day.

I actually thought the same thing. Some of them seemed to have a more defined stripe than your typical smallmouth. It would have to be a smallmouth/largemouth hybrid though. No Alabama bass or spots in this lake.

A single spawning pair can produce thousands of hybrid offspring so this was most likely a recent introduction. It’s also possible Alabama Bass were not introduced directly to the lake you’re fishing, but were stocked in another creek, lake or pond in the same drainage as the lake you’re fishing.
