Okay, here is a stupid question. Lately in several magazines I've read articles about "CRP" fields. What the heck is a CRP field? :huh:

CRP=Conservation Reserve Program

It began in 1986 as a way to take highly erodible land out of agricultral production.

Landowners signed up to plant pines in the southern states and plant grass out west,the landowners were paid for 15 years then are free to do as they please with the land.

You can thank the CRP program for the cheap timber prices in our area and they tridkledown effect of big timber companies selling their land.

With the current tax base & surplus of pulpwood its more profitable to buy the wood from private landowners rather than grow it themselves.
