Had a near perfect hunt this morning before work. Set up in an oak flat on the backside of a swamp where two gobblers were roosted. They started hammering in the fog early only 80 yards away. I made some soft calls and they kept hammering. Some hens were roosted on the other side of them and flew down away from me into a plowed field that was soaking wet. The gobblers pitched down with them. They were 150-175 yards away and out of sight. I made a few yelps on a ceramic pot and they liked it. After 5 minutes or so I hit them again and they continued to gobble. The third series brought a gobble that was much closer. One left the field and was heading down an old road through the middle of the swamp to me. I wound up shooting the bird at 20 steps head on. Couldn't have asked for a better morning other than the bird flopping around in the water. Didn't make for good photos.
