Things to do while in Chicago

You couldn't melt me down and pour me into Chicago.

Or any other metro area.

I have ZERO reason to ever step foot in a big city. 54 years old, and if you added up all the days I've spent in them you'd get a few days change back out of a month.

I sure don't figger I've missed out on anything, either.
There was only one reason that got me there. My son was stationed at Great Lakes, and my first grandchild was born.

I guess I'm an anomaly. I've traveled all over the US and the world in my career, and while I am a country boy at heart, and love to be as far off the grid as I can be...I love the hustle and bustle of cities. I love the restaurants, the museums, the architecture...there are some I love more than others, but Chicago is a blast to visit and has some exceptional restaurants. Going to a Cubs game, hitting The Lodge for some beer and peanuts, and Watermelon shots late night before grabbing some tacos at a South Side taco stand is something I've done more than once...

I'm always ready to leave, but I have fun in whatever city I'm in...when in Rome...

I hate cites with a black, seething passion, and I never relax or feel happy when I'm in or around one.

I can function when I'm in the city but I don't like them. I don't go there for anything other than necessary things that I have to do.

A lot of sweet looking females walking around the cities. Just got to make sure they are actual females these days.

I'm going to take a guess: your grandson was born in Waukegan or North Chicago. Possibly Gurnee. Did I get it right?

I love history, architecture, and food so I love to visit big cities and explore...I tire of them quickly in general, and I don't have much interest in some but there are some amazing cities in the US and abroad that are well worth tolerating the idiots for...I'd never live in one, but when I'm exploring on someone else's nickel I have a blast. Some of my favorites include:

Paris, London, Dublin, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Osaka, Toronto, Quebec City, Montreal, Milan, Rome...

I spent 3 years going to Chicago for different projects...pay attention and stay out of certain areas and it's awesome...crime and politics aside...

IL and Chicago as a whole I don't care for the weather, crime and politics...so I'd NEVER live there...but as a tourist it's fine...

Sort of adding to KS Bow Hunter's comment, some cities do have interesting things to see & do. I lived right in the middle of Seoul, Korea for a year at a time on two separate occasions. 11,000,000 people, so it's pretty good sized and not much violent crime, just systemic corruption. Great subway system and very safe. When I was there I complained about the traffic, but in retrospect it wasn't nearly as bad as Atlanta for example.

You can have 'em. I prefer Rabbitskin, Panther Creek, Mollie's Nipple, Thunderhead, And Cataloochee. People en masse are a plague on our planet. I defer to @Nicodemus cotton rat analogy. He's very, very right.
