High, Medium or Low scope rings?

In case you are interested in mounting your scope that has a 50mm objective here are some pictures. Note that I will have to grind the top of the B-Square level because the scope touches it when tightened down.

I installed a EGW 20 MOA Picatinney rail then you can see the different hight of the rings. The first are 1" high then 1/2" high and the ones I am keeping are 1/4" high. The last picture is the scope with 1" high rings.

The 1/2" and 1/4" are Burris Extreme 30mm Tactical Rings. I hope this will help you when deciding the ones you want with 30mm rings.

Please note that if your scope tube is 1" the objective "may" touch the barrel.(?)

PS: The first picture has 1" high ring and a 1/2" high next to it for comparison. The ones I am keeping are 1/4". The 4th. picture down are the 1/2" with the scope. The 5th. picture is with the 1/4" rings.

That EGW base is a little thicker than some others, like the Badger Ordnance, but thinner than some, like the Farrell Industries. So, the base will have a lot to do with what height rings you can use as well.

Also, 50mm is the objective lens size, not the OD of the objective. So, some 50mm scope will have a larger or smaller diameter objective OD than yours.

Good info with the pics. Oughta help some folks.

It is the infamous 10-40x50mm Osprey. I got it from Sportsman Guide. I have been using it for almost a year and it has done as advertised. Mostly use it for bench rest shooting, but also killed an 8 pointer with it this past season.

PS: I have this scope on pre-order from SWFA: http://swfa.com/Vortex-6-24x50-Viper-PST-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P44560.aspx

I will still keep using the Osprey for target shooting though. 40 power gets you real close to the target.
