Any acorns left?

Was wondering what you guys were thinking as to how many acorns are still holding on to the trees considering the 50 mph winds?

Just got back from Clybel WMA, a lot of trees, branches, and acorns on the ground.

Gone But Not Forgotten
Plenty. I had a bunch of water oak limbs down but the acorns were still firmly attached to them. Saw several bucks taking advantage of the sudden gift from the sky and overall I think it should be good for the deer. They'll be packing on the pounds during the next couple of weeks!

I got water oak branches all over, and one whole white oak that hit the dirt

I had same experience tonight in the woods. Lots of Oak branches down with acorns firmly attached and persimmon trees that looked to be completely stripped of fruit. Hope it ain't so. Going to take the binos out tomorrow and scan em closer

Well I am pleased to report that upon closer inspection this morning with the binos that most of the fruit on our persimmons appears to have weathered the storm. It was just the majority of the leaves that were stripped from the trees

My white oaks in my front yard are loaded with them. They were shedding little ones for six weeks before this week. Now the big green juicy ones are dropping. The storm knocked down a bunch but there are tons more still in the trees.

Just got back from Clybel WMA, a lot of trees, branches, and acorns on the ground.

Same with my yard and driveway. (no trees down though)
small branch ends and acorns everywhere.
A LOT of them were green as a gourd and NOT
ready to fall but fell in the wind.

Have not been to the hunting land since Sunday
after dove opener.

Might ride over there when it dries up a little
and check it out.

Just because they are an acorn doesn't mean they are any good to eat.I have had to rake 1000's of pounds of acorns off the yard that had a bug in them before they fell..Check the ones that have fell for a pin hole.If you find one the acorn is probably bad.

Funny thing, I haven't seen acorns before the storm. I have them everywhere on the ground now. I believe that most made it through the weather. I did lose one white oak.

Anyone noticing the white oak acorns are smaller this year? My trees are loaded up, even after the storm. The ripe ones are falling now and they are about 1/2 or 1/3 the size of usual. There are more though. Do oaks do like fruit trees and produce smaller nuts if they make more? Never noticed it before.
