Two weeks ago I hung a stand over a well worn Trail with 2 fresh scrapes within bow range. Yesterday morning, I figured it was time to hunt it, so I planned for a long sit with the full moon and all. At daylight, I could see that the scrapes were covered with leaves.....not what I was hoping for. The early morning was slow as I expected. About 11:00 the action picked up. Four does appeared 60 yards to my left, headed the other direction. I grabbed my grunt call and Let out a low grunt. They stopped and looked back. One more soft grunt and the lead doe decided to check it out. I drew my bow as she went behind a red oak tree at 10 yards and drilled her on the other side at a long 7 yards. She made it about 80 yards and piled up. She is my 1st with this bow and my 3rd with a self bow this season. God is good.
I used a 50 LB. hickory self bow, cedar arrows, and a 145 grain Ace Standard Broadhead.
