I have not tried a small red dot like the one above.
I have tried several Military Style Red Dot Sighting Systems that i have pulled from ARs. I have a Marlin with a full length rail system. I bought the rail with the idea of a doing what you describe. I am unhappy with my results. Mostly because they tend to sit too high above the bores axis. Cheek weld is impossible. I added a cheek swell to my stock and it is usable, but i have abandoned this project in lew of a Vortex Strike Eagle. which is my recommendation if she is having acquiring the target quickly in a traditional scope. plus you can pull it from the Marlin and during the off season have a great fast optic for your AR.
