Anybody else changed from what I want to load, to what I can find to load?

I know I have. It used to be that I had a load -- or several different loads, depending on my intended game -- for each of my rifles that was very specific in terms of components used. These loads were recorded in my master recipe book, and set in stone. Yeah, sometimes I had to search a bit for a particular bullet or powder, but I would eventually find it.

My, how times have changed! Today I find myself buying powders I never dreamed I'd
use, and developing loads with it utilizing bullets I swore I'd never shoot! It's either that, or not load anything at all, because what I want shoot is not just hard to find, but in many cases totally impossible to find!

A few years ago, I thought these component shortages would end soon. Today, however, I fear that this is the new normal. In the future, we either learn to be flexible, or take up pickleball as a sport!

I have deliberately bought powders suitable for multiple calibers that I load. One may not be my first choice in that caliber but it will work. Luckily, what I shoot has a lot of crossovers in powders.

I have basically decided to find 2 loads for each rifle- different bullet and powder for each load. So far I have 2 calibers left to find a second loading for, one of which I am shooting a ladder of this afternoon to try to find the second load.

The other thing I have done is stack my components deep. For instance, I have enough R17 to last my lifetime- but I also have 6 different calibers with loads for that powder.

Yes... that was my point in the RL 17 post ... there are other powders that have been much more available... that can do what RL17 can or nearly so...

Overlooked powders include the Ramshot, Accurate and others ...

Just for information... Reloder 17 is made by Nitrochemie in Switzerland ...most the other Alliant rifle powders are made in Sweden by what was Bofors(now BAE)

I help compile parts of this list a couple years ago...there could be changes that have been made since then..

GON Forum

I happened to remember that I had made a list of powders and who they were made by at the time(Jan. 2016) ...there could have been changed since then ....thought may be interesting to some ...

Updated ... Those listed as made by Thales are no longer made by them ...GD now make most if not all those...
