Boat Blind

I am considering an Avery quick set blind for my 1436. I have a 13 hp surface drive on it.
Does anyone have any experience with these blinds? Are they easy to install and use? Can they be used with mud motors?

I have no experience with the Avery, but the easy-up by flyway specialties is the bomb. It works great with a mud motor as well. I’m ready to use mine for youth day with my ten year old! I just got mine from flyway last week.

They have a web page or you can get the owner at:

I have had both Flyway Specialties and Avery boat blinds over the years. You cannot go wrong with either option.

It seems to be cumbersome to roll it up with the grass and wind blockers on it. Is there a secret to making it all fit? Or just use lots of bungee cords?

You can build a much better blind for about $40. I ran this for years on my old boat. I have a Gatortail rig now with a Gatortail boat blind that I love, but it doesn’t blend in nearly as well as using palm frawns like I did on my old rig.

Get enough 6” pvc to run the length of your boat on both sides. Get 2 6” pvc couplers. Drill 3 holes on each side of boat and attach pvc using lock nuts running the length of the boat on each side. Get a hole punch attachment for your drill and cut the holes in the pvc for the palm frawns to sit in.

You will kill a lot more birds than using that blind. I’ve seen people use them and they stick out like a sore thumb and look flimsy. It’s more work cutting palm frawns every few hunts but it pays off big time and you can take off the palm frawn tubes when it’s time to fish.

I don’t have any pics of my old boat with the frawns up, but I’ve included a few where you can get an idea of what I’m talking about.

That 1436 will get small real fast with a blind on it. But a scissor blind is an easy build if you wanted to do a test run before buying. If i remember right, @king killer delete has posted his on here before. I did a similar design years ago that worked pretty good. Conduit and burlap with a few fasteners is really all you need.

You can do a lot with PVC, Fast Grass and twist ties. Remember, a heat gun will soften PVC up to where you can bend it to fit anything. Here is my rig. It's a MCcalls Fowler/Armstrong Widgeon type of boat. If the water is low and the lily pads are high, I can disappear in the pads and cover up with plywood and camo netting.. If the water is up, I put the rails and fast grass on and get as close to a back drop as I can. Works pretty good
