So I've had this leather holster since I was a kid. (Early 1970's). The closest ID I've found is a M1917 Army holster for the Colt or Smith and Wesson Revolver WWII era.

Mine has no stamping under flap, no evidence of ever having a US emboss on the body, and the barrel slot seems too narrow for the Army colt tall front sight to fit into.

The impression from way long ago looks like about a 4" barrel. Also note the tassel/tie on mine is mounted in a brass grommet instead of in the bottom of a flat snout like the US M1917.

I've taken it to a couple of gun shops in years past, both were pretty much scratching their heads. One did note that the belt loop appeared to have had a small piece cut out of it to narrow the loop. Another suggested it was just a homeade copy. It was pretty old when I got it, add about 45+ years to it and you get what you see now.

What say you firearms gurus? What weapon do you think it fits, and what about it's origin?

M1917 repro for comparison:

Don't know for sure but I would guess a home made copy also.
