I am not making the same mistake I did in the spring and wasting money by planting with no rain. When is the latest I can plant brassica in October and still get good results?
Thanks!

I planted turnips about 3 weeks ago and will plant more, in a mix with radish and Dwarf Essex Rape this weekend. A lot of it will have a bearing on your soil temperatures and when you get your next rainfall.

Just plug in your zip code to see where you are

Turnips jump up quick. Daikons get goin even faster. If it dont freeze hard both will last a good long while.

I'm going to wait for some rain.

That may be a while. I planted mine last weekend. Forecast says rain tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed.

Yeah no rain in sight here. I may plant next weekend anyway. It will be fine in the ground until it does rain. Better to plant and get no rain then plant and get just a little to germinate and then nothing.

@davel.
Find the average first frost for your area,back date 1 month and that would be the latest I would plant.
My area is Nov 5th so in the next week I need to have everything finished.
We are in a El Nino pattern.Once it starts raining it typically rains every 3-4 days.
You can always top dress as I have had to do many times over the years.

If there is moisture in the ground it will germinate with that and any dew on the top of the soil.Its always 2 weeks after germination that most plants die from lack of moisture.

And just like that the chance of rain is shrinking like Homer Simpson disappearing into the hedgerow. :rolleyes:

Yes it is. It’s Mudducker’s fault. He put the hex on me in the Sports forum pick em’s contest and now I’m tied for first place and everything else has went downhill from there. :bounce:

Fall is a horrible time to be a grower of things aint it? All the promise of cooler weather n then the rain turns off every single year, just when ya need it. I swear it aint worth it every year but then here i am again, again. ;)

This time of year you got to have some luck on your side. The good news is it's an El Nino year for us so maybe, just maybe..........
