Out this afternoon from noon to 3:30 and boated 8 nice ones deep....35'-40' on specific secondary points. I tried to stay out of the wind some so I targeted the "Line" as I call it....where the wind meets the calm on points. But - I had to sit right in the wind too for a few fish deep.
I went to a 1/2 oz weight with around 20" tag end to get the bait up off the bottom some. The heavier weight got the bait down to the fish fast when I saw them on the Humminbird....in the wind, you need to get it to them fast. You can see on the screen shot that a few fish were on top of brush....chased my bait down...one hit and I reeled up...another fish kind of followed below the hooked fish underneath. Around the 11' depth...you can see the fish realized he was hooked
Another thing to mention.....fishing the DS deep with a longer tag in the wind - the bite is different at times. Today, it was just weight or I'd "lose" the bait...like my rig was gone. When this happens, the bass has hit it and moved up so you have to reel fast and lift to take line up and bury the hook. This happened multiple times today - so pay close attention. Other times, the rod will just get yanked down or the rod will start to load up.
Just an FYI....In the sonar shot - I stopped the screen to take a pic as soon as I hooked the fish....notice it says 37' and 46'. The screen was stopped but the sonar keeps working....the wind had pushed me out deeper.
LJ's Obsession and Herring did the damage on Drop Shot today along with 3 spoon fish on a .75 (3/4oz) Flex It with Blue Prism. Doing an install on a unit tomorrow -
then out Tuesday and Wednesday. LJ
