On one section of my roof, I am getting A lot of moss balls growing on it. What is the best way to kill and remove them??

This is a newer roof and never had an issue with it on old roof!

Thanks J.R.

If it’s a newer roof, it shouldn’t be growing on there. Most newer shingles have at least a 10 year algae resistance. The algae will compromise the shingle, making it brittle and result in a much shorter lifespan of your roofing system. Depending on how old, I’d contact whoever installed your roof and see if it’s covered under warranty. Depending if you used a reputable company or not, it should be and let them fight it out with manufacturer. Again, all of this depends on if you use a reputable company. Most suppliers/manufactures will make it right when a problem arises from a company who spends a few million a year on their product. If you decide to use a chemical, be sure to do your homework. Most of the “safe” chemicals that won’t hurt your roof, void your warranty and also alter the long term lifespan of your roofing system.

I guess it’s been about 7-8 years since it was put on. I didn’t think it had been that long. It also has stained/discolored all over.

I have heard bleach/Clorox is not good on shingles so I’m leary about using it.

I did use a reputable company, I will call them and see what they say

Got up to clean out the gutters, this is the opposite side, and very discolored/stained.

It’s gleocapsamagma, that grows on the northernmost slopes of our roofs. It can be treated and made to look new. It’s not a shingle color defect. Anyone from jefferson to Stone Mountain that needs it done let me know my guy is great. As a roof contractor I wouldn’t let just anyone do it.
