Looking forward to seeing everyone’s gardens. I’ll have my little garden going as well. I have taters, onions and a small patch of lettuce growing now. I’ll snap a pic sometime.

Love them pics! You grew a nice garden last year. Lookin forward to seeing it again this year

Great info! Thanks for sharing. I’ll look into it all for sure.

That grinder, where do you mount it? I was thinking if I got one like that I’d put it on a board I could clamp to a counter top.

You don't need to mount it. Sits on the countertop like a kitchen aid mixer or food processer. Motor is heavy enough that it doesn't walk.

I have a separate section of field the heirloom corn is going in. How far apart to be sure no cross contamination, or, as @livinoutdoors suggested, is a staggered planting time sufficient?

Yes, stagger your planting times by a couple of weeks, and plant the different types a minimum of 100 yards apart. You should be getting your seed in the mail any day now.

I will plant the heirloom last. The right side of this line is where I intended to put it. Looks like it’s borderline on the 100 yards. May move it deeper into the field behind that small red roofed building (which is now my shelter for cows). There is plenty of space over there outside the fence.

We've been using the mill below for a couple of years. Not cheap, but we don't go on beach vacations and my wife also wanted something to grind wheat, so I could combine a gift for her with a way to get cornmeal and grits. They make a cheaper one that would probably be fine, just takes twice as long. We don't have any complaints, other than it is pretty loud with corn.

No matter how you grind it, the easiest method I've found to sift with easy cleanup for a house hold is to order the classifying sleeves below sold for mining that fit in a 5 gal bucket. The piece in the amazon link goes on on the bottom of the bucket, so once you stack the sieves and pour it in from the mill you can sit in a chair and rock the bucket back and forth to separate your cornmeal and grits pretty quick. I've made my own before, but like these better.

Meant to mention this earlier......when you do grind this year, can you post some pics of the process? I looked up all the parts and will be ordering them sometime between now and harvest season. Any "how to" tips would be appreciated.

I’ve got some Seminole pumpkins to plant this year too. Excited to see if they are as bug and disease resistant as they say. I’ve always heard that winter squash have less bug problems, but mine always get destroyed unless I plant as early as possible.

Fixin to plant a small row of taters right now n see what happens this late. Some crazy mountain man was all jumpin up n down bout the merits of late planted taters, so i though what the heck. Just a small row though in case hes dumb or whatnot.

Keep us posted…….happens to me every year that I can’t get everything ready for early planting
